The world famous name in the history of world cup football is Diego Maradona. His full name is Diego Armando Maradona. He was born on October 30, 1960 in Argentina in Lanus Buenos Aires. He is well-known as one of the best soccer players in the world of all time. He, for the first time, ended an internet vote for the FIFA Players of the Century award sharing with Pele.

During his professional club career, Maradona played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Naopli, Sevilla and Newell’s old Boys. Internationally he played for Argentina and earned 91 cups securing 34 goals. He played four tournaments of FIFA World Cup. In the World Cup 1986, Maradona being a captain of Argentina led them to acquire the victory against West Germany in the final and won the Golden Ball award and the best player in the tournament. In the quarter-final round he scored two goals in which first goal was an unreprimanded handball knowing as “Hand of God” and second one was a amazing 60-metre interlace throughout six England players referred to as “The Goal of the Century” and led him victory against England.

Maradona for various causes is well thought-out as one of the sport’s most notorious and newsworthy figures. In 1991 after failing a doping test, he was suspended from football for 15 months for cocaine in Italy and during the World Cup 1994 in the USA he was sent home for using ephedrine.

He was retired from his playing on his 37th birthday in 1997 due to suffering ill health and weight gain for ongoing cocaine abuse. After a stomach stapling operation in 2005, he was cured. He could control weight and overcome from his cocaine addiction and finally he again became a popular player in the world history.

His outspoken manners have sometimes put him at odds with journalists and sport executives. Due to having previous managerial experience, he became the head coach of the Argentina national football team in November 2008.
