Pele’s won the first time on July 7, 1957 against Argentinasecuring 2-1 defeat.He, then at the age of sixteen years and 9 months, attained his first goal for Brazil and became the youngest player in International football.
World Cup - 1958
He attended his first match in the World Cup against USSRin the first round of 1958 World Cup match. Being a youngest player he scored his first World Cup goal against Wales in quarterfinals. That was the only goal of the match which helped Brazil to be advanced to semifinals.
The final match was held on June19,1958 and Pele scored two goals in the final for Brazil beating Sweden 5-2. Then, he was selected as one of the best player in the history of World Cup football tournament.
World Cup - 1962
Pele scored his first goal in 1962 World Cup in the first match against Mexico. He was injured at that time. His substitute Garrincha performed well for the rest of the match and took the leading role, and carried Brazil to the second World Cup title.
World Cup - 1966
In the World Cup 1966, Brazil was eradicated in the first round and it played only three matches. Pele attained the first goal from a free kick against Bulgaria. Due to constant fouling by the Bulgarians, Pele was injured and was left out for the second round against Hungary. Brazil lost the match. The last vital match was against Portugal. Pele had to stay on field for the rest of the matches by the referee George McCabe as there was no other substitute of him. Subsequently, he promised he would not play again in the World Cup but later the decision was changed.
World Cup - 1970
The World Cup 1970 in Mexico was the last tournament for Pele. There were major changes amongst players as some players were retired at that time.
The first match was against Czechoslovakiaand won the match by 4:1. In the quarterfinals Brazil won 4-2 against Peru. In the semi finals, Brazil against Uruguay for the first time faced to each other and Brazil won the match by 2-1. The final match was held against Italy and won the match by 4-1.
On July 18, 1971 was the last international match of Pele against Yugoslavia in Rio de Janeiro. As per record Brazilian team attained 67 wins, 14 draws, and 11 losses and won three World Cups.
South American Championship
Pelé also participated in the South American Championship South American Championship. In 1959 competition, he was top scorer with eight goals and Brazil came second
